The Town of Cobourg respectfully acknowledge that we are located in the traditional and treaty territory of the Michi Saagiig (Mississauga) and Chippewa Nations, collectively known as the Williams Treaties First Nations, which include: Curve Lake, Hiawatha, Alderville, Scugog Island, Rama, Beausoleil, and Georgina Island First Nations.

The Town of Cobourg respectfully acknowledge that the Williams Treaties First Nations have been stewards and caretakers of these lands and waters, and that today remain vigilant over their health and integrity for generations to come. We are all Treaty people.

Objective: To learn whether or not the COW approved the SCCAC 2021 Work Plan and whether any follow up action is needed

Objective: To discuss response from Glenn re the Planning Department vision of role of the SCCAC in the ICSP and any follow up action

Objective: To receive an update on the work of the Youth Council; to approve a Motion to Council re addition of two people to the SCCAC

  • Debrief from Adam on the work of the Youth Council in relation to how Council would involve youth in Council business 
  • Discuss draft Motion to Council seeking the addition of Pam Lancaster from the Ganaraska Regional Conservation Authority, and Brenda Ferris from Sustainable Cobourg to the SCCAC. (Draft Motion attached)

Objective: To discuss and decide on the draft Motion to Council to address that the existing Environmental Officer position ends May 31, 2021(draft Motion attached)

Objective: To discuss and agree on the SCCAC position on sidewalks; agree on a follow up response to the citizen who wrote the SCCAC; and decide whether and how to convey SCCAC position to Council in addition to the TAC (Draft SCCAC Sidewalk position paper attached)

Objectives: To discuss and agree on the various draft responses to the suggestions made at the TAC;

  • Providing input to the COW and Regular Council on Agenda items: Draft proposal on how the SCCAC can provide a climate emergency position on specific agenda items that will be appearing before the COW/Regular Council (draft proposal attached)
  • Advisory Committees having a climate impact column on their Work Plan:
    1. Draft proposal on the criteria for the three rankings, as well as other ways the effect on global heating of specific actions could be noted; (draft proposal attached)
    2. Draft motion requesting that Council request all Advisory Committees to include such column; (draft motion attached)
  • Carbon Footprint Calculator: Draft proposal on recommended carbon footprint calculator, and process for informing Cobourg citizens and encouraging them to apply it (draft proposal attached)

Objective: Agree on response to the TAC based on decisions made under preceding agenda item re TAC meeting suggestions including how the two committees can support each other on specific matters/share agendas and minutes.

Objective: Decide whether the SCCAC is okay with individual committee members sending to the SCCAC videos/articles for their suggested reading on strictly a voluntary basis (there would be no follow up at an SCCAC meeting)

  • Two applications before Planning and Development Committee: three story hotel at 1144 Division Street; single story addition for spa/salon at north end of We-Fix-U/Comfort Zone building on William Street
